Home of Nomad at the Shanghai Light and Shadow Festival, West Bund Grand Theatre
2025
Home of Nomad was projected across the façades of the West Bund Grand Theatre as part of the Shanghai Light and Shadow Festival. The work was translated into an architectural scale, allowing its evolving environments to emerge directly over the theatre’s surfaces. Natural landscapes, imagined architectures, and quiet celestial atmospheres unfolded across the interconnected façades, extending the film’s themes into the surrounding urban context.
Shown in its complete form, the film progressed slowly across the theatre’s height and curvature. Shifts in scale, perspective, and composition remained central, mirroring the work’s reflection on the idea of “Home” as something internal and evolving. The open outdoor setting brought viewers into direct relation with the film’s environments as they moved and expanded over the building.
By integrating the film with the theatre’s architecture, the installation highlighted the relationship between nature, human-built space, and the wider cosmos. The projected images carried a sense of continuity across the façades, echoing the film’s quiet search for belonging while opening a contemplative pause at the scale of public space. Within the festival, Home of Nomad stood as both cinematic narrative and large-scale installation, offering a moment of stillness in one of Shanghai’s most active cultural districts.
